We are fundraising to spearhead the redesign of Lowndes Park. We strongly believe that the park needs a new Masterplan to refresh and rejuvenate it to continue to thrive in the twenty-first century.
Not many local park groups can say that their Chair took over a £26 million park budget! We can.
Ever wondered what that mound surrounded by trees is?
Most references to the windmill at Lacey Green, near Princes Risborough, including the Chesham history books by Clive Birch and George Piggin, state categorically that it was built in 1650 at Chesham, and stood here for its first 170 years.
The park is a great place to see a variety of wild plants and animals. At the top of the park you can often hear green woodpeckers and see red kites in flight.
The Friends run working parties to do some gardening but the Council do the mowing. The Friends raise money, but the Council implement big projects. It can be confusing to figure out who’s in charge of what can’t it? Hopefully this will help.
Skottowes Pond was dug out in the early 18th Century and it’s in desperate need of cleaning up. We are encouraging the Council to create a masterplan for the park which will include the renovation of Skottowes Pond.
Friends of Lowndes Park successfully raised £50,000 in 2011 for huge improvements, but more needs to be done.
Lowndes Park is a major historic feature of Chesham and was donated to the town in 1953 but it’s history goes a lot further back. Read on to find out more.
The Friends of Lowndes Park is a voluntary community group protecting and improving Lowndes Park now, and for future generations.
