Lowndes Park is the Green Heart of Chesham
A welcoming space for the whole community to come together
A welcoming space for the whole community to come together
Formed in 2007, the aim of Friends of Lowndes Park is to ensure our park is well cared for and maintained, and has a planned and healthy future.
The Friends is run entirely by volunteers from the local community for the local community.
We’ve achieved great things so far! Such as securing a massive £50,000 grant which created the performance space and coordinating all the funding to build the skate park. We’ve created huge and successful community events like Lowndesbourne and Tea in the Park. But on a day to day level, we also coordinate the everlasting task of the maintaining flower beds, borders and sensory garden.
Our fundraising project – Love Lowndes, successfully raised £220,000 for our new destination playground for 5-11 year olds. And they’re currently working on raising more for the new Early Years playground. You can donate now via the Crowdfunder.
We do a lot. And we need your help to carry on and do more.
Whether you live, work, study, or visit Chesham, Lowndes Park is a place for everyone to enjoy. We want to promote Lowndes Park to as wide an audience as possible and to help it to realise its full potential, enabling and encouraging informal and formal activities.
We work in partnership with the Chesham Town Council in identifying and applying for funding to care for and improve the park.
Lowndes Park has changed quite a bit since it was the garden of Bury House and used for grazing. Now it is central to Chesham life as an outdoor space in the centre of town for dog walkers, children, teenagers and picnickers.
There are two play areas for younger children plus a skate park, multi-sports court and zipwire. There are regular concerts are held throughout the summer in the Performance Area, exercise classes, and fundraising events. It has even hosted a pop-up restaurant in a teepee. There really is something for everyone in our park.
